From the Plan Of the Day or POD

Ok Gang. It appears to me that either twitter isn't working, or your not interested enough in my trivia facts. Just in case it's twitter with the problem, I'll give you the answers to yesterdays query. The seven animals are as follows: Four pelican hooks (they hold the anchor chain in the ready to drop position when the ship is underway) The bullnose (this is a chock at the front of the bow that a line is passed through when tying up the ship to the pier) I the one at the bow of the ship is called the bullnose, I bet you can't guess the name of the one that's at the stern? Your right it's the bull's ass. there are four turtle backs. (these are the shell coverings that go over the hawse pipe the the anchor chain is fed through) these also serve the purpose of keeping seawater out of the chain locker, which could lead to flooding. Snaking ( This is netting that goes completely around the ship to aid in keeping sailors who lose their footing from being washed overboard), The wildcat ( Commonly refered to as the windless, is the divice used to raise the anchor for storage in the chain locker, where it is prepared and made ready for being dropped again) and last but not least are pigtails ( these are small lines attached to hawser lines, tied in at designated spots, used by sailors to determine if a line is to taughnt or to slack, so that a line does not break)
